## Nigerian Fish Stew – Fried Fish Stew!This red African stew is made using fish, peppers, and spices, and is easy to make and highly versatile. It can be enjoyed with rice, pasta, plantains, and more. It is a recommended dish for those who love fish stew.This spicy fish stew recipe is simple and so delicious that you’ll find it hard to resist licking your fingers.You can use any type of fish for this African fish stew. Here, we used cod, but you can also use black seabream, tilapia, mackerel, dried cod, and more.

fish (gutted and cut into fillets) or fish fillets1.5 kg

  1. This recipe is quite spicy due to the habanero peppers. If you are not a fan of extreme heat, you can substitute with red chili peppers or green chili peppers.
  2. You can substitute with large tomatoes. Adjust the quantity depending on their size.

Instructions

  1. Blend the bell peppers, habanero peppers, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and onion in a blender until smooth.
  2. Clean the fish and season with 1 bouillon cube and salt. Mix well.
  3. In a pot or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil or sunflower oil and fry the seasoned fish until golden brown.
  4. In another pot, heat some vegetable oil or sunflower oil and sauté the chopped onion. After about 2 minutes, add the blended mixture from step 1.
  5. Add the remaining bouillon cube and salt. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until well cooked, then add the fried fish.
  6. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, then turn off the heat. Your Nigerian Fish Stew is now ready.
  7. Serve with rice, plantains, swallow (such as fufu), or your preferred side dish.
